Buick is ready to roll out two production models. Both go by the name of Velite 6. However one of them is a fully electric vehicle and the other is a plug-in hybrid. Buick notes that the Velite 6 will play a vital role in GM’s overall vision of zero emissions.
The plug-in hybrid version has a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter gasoline engine that has been adapted for hybrid cars. It works together with two electric motors, a variable transmission controlled electronically, and a lithium-ion battery. That gives the partially electrified Velite a maximum range of 435 miles. In the combined cycle, fuel consumption is remarkably low 168 miles/gallon.
On the other hand, there are not many details about the zero-emissions model. Buick says that it has a new-generation powertrain that will provide the drivers with a smooth, quiet and natural driving experience. As well as the PHEV model, the fully electric Velite 6 will have the option to use the owner’s smartphone as a virtual key to enter and start the car.
